The problem

Fernhill’s customers opened the app to check one number and left confused. Fees, pending payments and savings goals were spread over five screens, and support spent a third of its week explaining charges.

The approach

I ran twelve interviews and a diary study with new savers, then rebuilt the home screen around a single question: where did my money go this week? Upcoming fees now appear before they are charged, in plain words.

The outcome

Monthly active savers grew 38% after launch and tickets about fees fell by almost half. The new component library now ships every Fernhill feature.

“Velia made our savings app feel calm. Customers told us it was the first bank app that didn’t make them anxious.”
